Who We Are
The Healthcare Coalition for the North Country is a nonpolitical, volunteer coalition of active and retired healthcare professionals, caregivers, business and community leaders, Medicaid recipients, and other concerned citizens. Our mission is to preserve access to Medicaid for all deserving recipients. While there is always a need to identify and eliminate fraud and abuse, we also need to preserve healthcare through Medicaid for people in need who qualify by current standards. Feel free to contact us at info@northcountrymedicaid.org.
What We’re Fighting For
Medicaid is a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of people in our region. More than a quarter of our population relies in some way upon Medicaid funding. Medicaid ensures that our low-income neighbors, children, pregnant women, and people who are blind or disabled have access to essential healthcare services. In our rural, aging North Country communities, these are not luxury services. They include doctor and clinic visits, hospital stays, emergency care, prescription drugs, lab tests, x-rays, vision care, dental care, and nursing home services. Medicaid also helps with costs related to transportation to medical appointments, home health services, and some medical supplies and equipment.
Without access to important health services including those provided through Medicaid, our people and our communities will surely suffer – unnecessarily. We fully support the elimination of waste, duplication, and fraud. But the process of cutting waste must not sentence our neighbors to pain and suffering and imperil the care-giving system on which they rely.
